BF2:Annoying tactics

From BattleWiki

While every server is different, there are certain tactics that are frowned upon and likely get you banned from the server. Of course, they're not "rules" so much as common courtesy and with some it depends on how much you do it, rather than if you do it at all. That said, playing with Shackers on Shack servers is usually more fun precisely because they tend to avoid such behavior.

  • Crashing vehicles as the sole means of killing the enemy. If you can't fly/drive, don't bother. There are some people who can, leave it to them. You hurt your team and it's annoying.
  • Spawn camping the uncapturable flag when there are other flags that have not been captured. This is a controversial tactic and how much or if it should be done is debatable for both sides. This is so especially now that the UAV huts and artillery are such important targets to take out. This is probably only really acceptable when all flags have been captured.
  • Capping flags with a full blackhawk. A decent squad in a single blackhawk can fly all over the map, and cap flags within seconds of hovering above them. Anti-air measures are largely ineffectual with decent gunners and an engineer or two constantly repairing.
    • A good counter-tactic is to throw a grenade into the Blackhawk if they hover low enough during a flag capture. If you stay directly under the chopper, the occupants are unable to attack you, and a well placed grenade could kill the pilot and thus the rest.
    • Another counter-tactic is to pummel the chopper with Ground to Ground and AT missiles fired at exactly the same time. The damage is so great; the mechanics cannot repair fast enough.
    • The most recent update seems to have fixed this problem. Now, a whole squad in a blackhawk only counts as one person. However, if the passengers bail out and the blackhawk leaves to provide cover fire, this can still be tough to fight.

Annoying non-tactics

  • Team-killing is clearly not good. This can be forgiven with the Friendly Fire bug going on, but if you are wantonly killing your teammates, expect to be kicked.
  • Never picking up passengers. This is especially the case with APCs or the Blackhawk helicopter. Just check the minimap, listen/read for teammates asking for a pick up for a couple of seconds at least before you go.
  • Constantly setting up votes to kick players, mutiny against the commander. If it doesn't work once, it's not likely to work in the next couple of seconds. You can try again a little later, just don't spam it.
  • If you're going to join a squad, stick with them! Don't go being the lone wolf after joining a squad. If you want to be alone, be alone, but don't hamper your other teammates' skills with teams by taking up a squad spot and being useless
  • Sometimes if you and a bunch of other teammates are waiting on the carrier for one of those F-35 Joint Strike Fighters to spawn, you have a chance to be in first. Now when you do get in first and have the plane, some guys will stand in front of your airplane, hoping you will run 'em over so they can punish you for the teamkill out of pure frustration. To make sure this doesn't happen, use the hover engine, then laugh at them in the chat area.
  • Players take advantage of the jumping ability of their characters by excessivey hopping around during a firefight and will sometimes even go from the peak of the jump to the prone position. All is fair in love and war, but this tactic is cheap and hopefully will be patched. /93_Confirmed
  • What's wrong with that?
    • Nothing, I don't think. The stamina bar already helps prevent this, and I don't think anything more is necessary.
      • When the stamina bar has been depleted - players can still jump around without any loss of ability. The newest exploit of this jumping ability is players who are able to jump off the ground while staying in the prone position. It looks like the person is a seal as their body never moves from that position even while they're in the air. I hope this gets patched because infantry combat skills should not come down to who can jump around the fastest but instead be the person with the best weapon/aim.
    • Do you think a real soldier could jump from prone position 5 feet in the air and land back in the prone position or hop all around? Find what cover you can and count on your aim and tactics to win, not exploiting some odd characteristic of the game.
    • Yes, jump-proning was a basic tactic in BF1942 - but that was more deathmatch-like. If I'm right , in the upcoming 1.3 patch they will solve this problen by not letting you jump when your stamina bar is depleted.
