- These are modified to work on all notebook chipsets
Windows XP64 Users
- Version 77.72 Windows XP x64 WHQL Candidates from nVidia
- After clearing all BF2 plus BF2:SF (uninstalling and deleting rest of files) using the 81.98 caused "back to desktop" error. Uninstalling these and installing the 82.xx beta driver solved the problem!
These drivers are known to cause problems for some people:
- There are known problems when you are running a combination of an AMD64 processor, an nForce3 motherboard, and a nVidia 6-series video card. With the 7x.xx series of nVidia drivers, you will encounter stuttering in games. There are several fixes that reduce the problem (like disabling AGP fast writes), but the only known 100% fix is to roll back to the 66.93 drivers. To fix the black boxes that accompany this rollback in Battlefield 2, turn off dynamic shadowing.
- After installing the drivers and your rebooting your system, you can only set your resolution to 640x480 with 4 bit color. To solve this, go into the Control Panel and uninstall your current nVidia video drivers and reinstall the 77.30 drivers again.
ATI
The new Catalyst 5.6 drivers work well in Battlefield 2, but have been known to cause problems in games such as Trackmania Sunrise and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for some people. If you don't want to use the 5.6 drivers, there are apparently known texture issues with 5.1 (?) to 5.5 Catalyst drivers, so ATI advises people to downgrade to lower versions.
- ATI Radeon Mobility 9000/9100 users may have trouble locating the proper driver verion for their laptop. These drivers work, at least for my Toshiba P35.
I have experienced problems with Catalyst 5.7 on the ATI Radeon 9600SE, and so (apparantly) have others. Catalyst 5.6 works better with Battlefield 2.
Release notes for 5.7 driver specifically says, "Battlefield 2: Geometry corruption or missing textures maybe noticed when playing the game for an extended period of time under Windows XP with an ATI Radeon® X800 XT installed. Further details can be found in topic number 737-19709 "
