Overview

The Medic is a very important class in BF2. A decent medic can keep a squad alive throughout battles, and could mean the difference between taking a flag, and being wiped out with nothing to show for it. In general, most squads should have one or two medics.

Medics are equipped with a rifle, a medical pack and defibrillator paddles. The rifle is not as accurate as the Special Forces rifle or as deadly as the Assault rifle, but it can help keep you alive. The medical pack is able to heal you and nearby teammates. The paddles can resuscitate a dead ("critically wounded") teammate (as well as kill a nearby enemy...)

The unlockable weapon for the medic kit is the L85A1. This rifle can be fired in fully-automatic and semi-automatic modes and has a 30-round box magazine. This nice little bullpup assault rifle also sports a 2x scope. Extremely accurate when scoped and firing single shots; firing full auto is a good way to waste ammo. However, it's almost necessary to fire controlled bursts in close-quarters combat since each L85A1 shot is generally weaker compared to the default medic rifle.

Using Your Equipment

• Having your medpack out will heal you and all teammates around you.
• "Firing" your medpack tosses it on the ground. Anyone running over it will use it up and be instantly restored to 100% health. Be wary of placing your medpacks where the enemy can use them.
• Using the shock paddles, you can revive recently-killed teammates.
  • Run up to the teammate's chest, point the paddles at the chest and fire. If it worked, you'll see/hear yourself saying the message "You'll live, buddy, now get back to the fight!" and the player will jerk and move.
  • If you successfully revive your teammate, your team will not lose the ticket, and you will receive points for the revive. The player that killed your teammate will still receive points, though.
  • This only works on teammates who still have a black (no health) bar above their name, or whose bar has just disappeared; if the player's respawn timer elapses, the bar disappears and the player model fades out as they respawn. You can see revivable players on your minimap, as well; they appear as red circles with a yellow lightning bolt through the middle.
  • The paddles don't always seem to work, if they are aimed incorrectly, or if the injured player is not on flat ground. Crouch, or even better, lie down and be sure to aim at their upper chest or anywhere on their body.
  • Unless he is your squad leader, don't rush to revive a teammate as soon as he falls without making sure whoever killed him has been neutralized or is being engaged by other teammates. Crouching over a body where you know someone was pointing their gun 2 seconds ago is an invitation to be shot.
    • It's also infuriating to be revived with two seconds left on your spawn counter only to be shot again (along with the medic) by the same guy, meaning you have to wait another 15 seconds before you can spawn again.

Tips And Tactics

• Before reviving your teammates in a hostile area, check to see if you can take out the enemy that killed your teammates and then go revive. If you cannot do this, before you revive your teammate, throw down a medpack right next to him so you can heal yourself after you revive him since the same person that killed him will also be gunning for you.
• You can use your paddles to one-shot-kill an opposing soldier. It's quite possibly one of the most amusing kills you can make in the game.
• If you're in a vehicle, teammates in and around the vehicle will auto-heal. Since you're more protected in a vehicle than on foot, sitting in a vehicle as your teammates swarm around it trying to recapture a flag can arguably be a good tactic. (It can also make your vehicle a target for enemy anti-vehicle classes.) Note, however, that this form of healing is slower than healing on foot or dropping medkits.
• Because the amount of time that you have to revive a teammate is equivalent to their respawn time, the effectiveness of medics can vary from server to server. If the respawn time is set at the default 15 seconds, you can be a pretty effective medic in reviving someone, but if it's been changed to 5 or 10 seconds, you usually won't have enough time to get over to a teammate and revive them unless they die right next to you.
• Proper placement of your thrown medkits can greatly help your team. Since your teammates can see the small cross icon above them, and your enemies can't, try hiding them in bushes near a flag. If you spot a friendly soldier lying prone and opening up on foes, throw a medkit on top of them; even if they're at full health, they'll pick up the medkit when they take damage which may save their life later on. The same goes for yourself; if you're lying in wait for enemies to attack a flag, drop a medkit or two at your feet or nearby, so you won't have to switch over to them when you wind up taking damage.
• If your squad medic is critically wounded, take his kit and revive him with the shock paddles. Of course, you would have swapped classes but at least you're not short a member. Similarly, if you manage to kill a medic, steal his kit, throw down a few medkits to heal yourself and allies, then take back your own kit.
• IMPORTANT: PEOPLE CAN HEAR YOU DROP MEDKITS AND AMMO PACKS. Make sure you are in a secluded area free of hostiles BEFORE you constantly drop the medkits because other players be it allied or foe can hear you say "Health Here!" or "Ammo Here!" in English/Arabic/Mandarin. Opposing forces can hear each other's pack dropping announcements so don't drop an unnecessary amount of packs unless needed. Just hold out your pack and heal/replenish your team mates silently.
