Bugs, Glitches, and generally Game-Breaking Issues
- Confirmed reports of players spawning on an ally's team with enemy's nametag color. – BlackCat9
- Sometimes it can take multiple attempts for a medic to revive a teammate, even when they are standing right on top of them. This seems to be a bug with the hit detection of allies when they're in certain positons. This should be fixed. Perhaps the paddles could be turned into a very small area effect to make this easier? – BlackCat9
- When clicking the 'Join Game' button after map load the entire programme freezes, this is not only due to VoIP as noted elsewhere. Updating motherboard driver & Bios, video card driver & bios, and turning off AGP Fast Write does not work! Still there after 1.01 patch.
- Sometimes, team mates remain in a "crippled pose" after being revived by a medic.
- Why do soldier stand up if they give radio commands in prone or crouch position?
- Health-packs, ammo-packs and droppable kits fall inside some brushes when dropped. - wh0racle
- The game crashes to desktop for users who have certain resolution and refresh rate combinations.
- Irregularly you wont spawn, despite having selected a point. going into and out of map until you spawn fixes it but is very frustrating.
- When playing as Spec Op, the sights will turn black when you zoom in. Shortly after, areas of terrain will appear black. Sometimes the game will crash. Sometimes everything will flash, causing an un-intentional wall hack.
- The blackened textures occur because of the dynamic loading of the textures. I have seen Helicopter blades turn back. All iron sights will also possibly turn black. You can either wait (going into the menu sometimes helps me) or go to another area where the textures need to be reloaded again.
- Commo rose "spotted" right click selection of asset being spotted causes the right click bind to trigger. It's not bad when your weapons zooms in, but real bad when you drop a live grenade at your feet [Boot.exe]
- Commo rose problems when driving vehicles - clicking left mouse button to select command also fires main gun [j.j. havellas]
- Medic Kit - switching from gun that's in burst fire mode to medpack then back to gun changes firing mode to single shot (which you usually don't find out until you go toe to toe with an enemy soldier) [j.j. havellas]
- MouseLook in aircraft and helos locks the flight controls even if you have them all mapped to joystick. This makes it more difficult to maintain situational awareness and renders VR head tracking hardware useless.
Enhancements and Features (non-critical) We'd Like To See
- Ability to use dual monitors. Wouldn't it be cool to have your regular POV on the primary monitor while you have a full map on your secondary monitor? – Koba1t

- This was suggested by PoopStewart and Carnivore, but I think it's brilliant and worth adding. Add a local voice chat channel for anyone (possibly including people on the other team) within X meters of where you are. This would be useful so that you can quickly tell the guy in front of you that he's about to get shelled by a tank coming up from behind him, or for a vehicle pilot to tell his passengers to bail out or bomb something. There are a ton of uses for a voice chat that applies to people in your direct vicinity. Hopefully, this wouldn't be too bandwidth intensive. – BlackCat9

- Busy retry to continuously retry the connection to a set of servers. Ranked servers are very popular but the turnover in players is high, so one should be able to quickly connect as soon as a slot opens on one of one's favorites. – ScratchMonkey
- Ability to mark a spot on the map (by clicking it while in the map/kit selection screen) so that you can reference it later. This is great for when you find a spot on the map that you'd like to revisit at another time. – 93_Confirmed
- Force the MEC and chinese soldiers to speak english (with accent)! It's just annoying if you're crying for ammo or health, but nobody of your team understands your language. And many players just don't look at the chat area, in the heat of battle.
- Note: There is already an option to do this – it uses the standard american voices for everyone (look for it in the audio menu, while not in game.) I suppose accents might be nice though, probably a bit low on the wish list though. – CrummyNZ
- Yeah, i'm using the english voices for everyone. This helps me to understand my team mates, but they still don't understand me!
- But with this Settings u hear all over Player with the same Language and this is worst, because u can not quickly check: "it´s an Enemy or an Friendly Soldier."

- Please include shortcuts for the radio and tactic commands, asweel as for the commands on the commander/squadleader map. It's lasting too long and is pretty annoying clicking.
- A la battlefield vietnam. I found this to be a much quicker way to communicate than in bf2
- Commander and squad leaders should all be in the same "Executive" chat channel together. As it is, the commander speaks to many squad leaders, while individual squad leaders speak only to the commander. This leads to a) the pointless exercise of squad leaders having to relay messages to other squad leaders THROUGH the commander, as well as b) the radio noise of all squad leaders hearing the one-sided transmissions of the commander talking to squad leader(s) other than themselves. - Ability to stand on tanks and other vehicels without getting an immediate death/teamkill. You see all sorts of soldier riding all the time on tanks in every movie/newsreal, it's just shady collision detection that is preventing this. If players are given external 'ride' slots they should not be allowed to fire, but if they can just stand on a tank with no fixed slot (a la grand theft auto) they should be allowed to fire.
- Ability to have users kicked out of squads if they spend too high of a percentage of their time away from their squad. – larsinio
- Erase any 1 person squad that is active past 5 minutes. – larsinio
- That isn't the best of ideas. The 'one-man squad' allows that player to communicate with the commander in a different way, including the requests for ammo, artillery, etc. Other cases include when you're more or less just waiting for the rest of the squad to join, where they can join straight into your squad if it already exists. Perhaps allow the commander to edit the squad roster pretty much at at will? (Though how should locked squads be handled?)
- Allow SpecOps player to detonate C4 while sprinting [jj havellas]
- Ability to "fast-rope" from blackhawks/all transport helos. The ropes could be controlled by the pilot/copilot and passengers could climb down just like a ladder... But faster. After players have landed the ropes would be droped (pretty much the kind of thing you see in 'Black Hawk Down') so the Hawk could exit quickly.
Game Tweaks and Balance Issues
- Battlefield Vietnam should not have more indoor areas to hide than bf2. Strike at Kirkland would be 21837128937891 times better if it had indoor. – larsinio
- the anti-armor MP5 is useless; it's way too nerfed. I've emptied clips into people and not have them die. – larsinio
- You probably emptied clips at people. Not quite the same thing. At short range the MP5 is excellent (short bursts), at medium it's useful (single shot). – Xombie
- Add team randomization after map load as a server option. Otherwise every map has the same two teams facing off round after round, and if one team is stacked, it's not a lot of fun. Mix up the teams like BF1942 did. A sufficiently long initial spawn time will provide plenty of time to recreate squads. – UtilityMaximizer

- I think it would be better to kick them if they don't join a squad after a certain period of time. Otherwise squads will be forced to deal with idiots shoved into their squad, when they don't want to be there and won't cooperate with the rest of the squad. UtilityMaximizer

- Decrease the height of a player's jump, frequency at which then can jump in succession, and the ability to go prone after reaching the height of the jump. Too often I see firefights where both players are hoping around like rabbits trying to kill each other. – 93_Confirmed
- Make the M95 (unlockable .50 caliber sniper rifle) a "one shot – one kill" weapon as it should be. Currently a shot to any part of the body (other than the head) takes about 90-95% of the victim's health but this is the same with the M24, which is the standard issue rifle for the USMC. This change would give players much more incentive to unlock the rifle other than just the ability to shoot through cockpit windows, which is a rare occurance. – 93_Confirmed
- Additional: This weapon should be able to shoot through almost anything as it can in real life, as well as have a scope that can zoom to its 'effective killing range' rather than a meager 3-400 yrds.
- Friendly Land Mines, C4 and Claymores should have clear and distinct indicators. Currently, they are all represented by a generic skull-and-crossbones, which obscures the nature of the obstacle at medium to long range. Consider this scenario: While walking, you see an object marked with a skull. If it's C4 or a land mine, you can walk over it safely. If it's a claymore, BOOM – TK. You can't tell which is which without inspecting closely and running the risk of triggering a claymore. In nearly all situations, the presence of skulls is a huge hindrance to friendly troop and vehicle movement, as they must always give skulls a wide berth or risk a 1 in 3 chance of getting TK'ed. Distinct markers for each type of weapon would fix this.
- The ability to 'run out of fuel' when a vehicle is constantly circling an opposing spawn point and not capturing it – I.e. spawn point camping. This is all too common on ranked servers where players are boosting thier ranks whilst disregarding gamesmanship, and the map objectives.
- I'm not sure I understand this point. Many vehicles have a hard time capping points because of objects on a map; it makes sense for them to suppress infantry at a point until someone can arrive to cap it. This is just part of the way the game is played. An intelligent defense can counter this. – UtilityMaximizer
- Force players to get out of vehicles to capture a flag. Too often, Black Hawks take flags by simple hovering near them, and they do need only 2 or 3 seconds for this. As well, tank or APC rushes wouldn't be so easy, then.
- Not all vehicles, how about just choppers. Since when can helicopters **really** secure an area. The ideal way would be; troops parachute from copter, caputre flag, chopper swoops down and scoops them up away they go. – larsinio
- A "Wait!" and "Need air support!" command in the command rose.

- A refinement to the punish–forgive team-kill would be to prevent the option of ptk–ftk for the victim, if he has been killed due to his own lack of awareness: Mines/C4/Claymores are marked for friendlies, so running into them is not the fault of the team-mate who placed them ... it's the fault of the victim. Similarly, the mini-map 'red circles' and audible commander warnings alert team-mates of an incoming artillery strike ... to get the hell out of the vicinity. – ScopE
- And what about engineers who think that it's funny to lay mines on top of friendly tanks?
- The team should see the landmine warnings near the tank; it's their fault if they hop in. Maybe it was done for the purpose of "protecting it" by having the enemy hop in and blow up? Otherwise, if it was a moving, friendly tank, TK it is! Additionally, it's annoying being punished as a commander when you arty an area where there are a few lone wolves, but tons of enemy; it's not easy to tell them to move because they are not in a squad. Most people just don't know when to punish and when to forgive as the system is currently set up. – fragulater
- It's possible for the mine warnings not to show. If they don't, the on-view flag markers etc don't show either, and you should press alt to bring them back. ("3d map" option in key bindings)
- Friendly mines and claymores -- It would be very nice to have a server option for these two explosives to not explode when in contact with friendly troops and vehicles. This allows someone to create a trap without worrying about loosing points from teamkills. Even if friendly fire is disabled, it is frustrating to take the time to set a trap just to have a friendly vehicle or soldier carelessly run over the explosives and setting them off.
- You should only lose teamwork points if you are punished for a teamkill. Even if, for example, a friendly drives a loaded jeep over your AT mine and they all forgive, you still lose 12 points. The punish only goes toward a kick total.
- Make the Autobalance smarter. Instead of shifting the first dead player, shift the first unassigned/non-squad player if possible. This both encourages squads, and lowers the potential disruption to existing squads. – '#kenny'
- The autobalance system should just choose the lowest player on the list to move over. This should also be the case for admin when making room for a player in their clan. The other day I was leading the team with like 60+ points and owning the clan members who were on the other team and then I see a message that I'm being kicked to make room for other players...how convenient.

Performance Issues, Non-Game-Breaking Bugs
- Player stats take a long friggin' time to update. – BlackCat9
- Verifying step when joining server will sometimes take a very long time. – BlackCat9
- The "play now" feature that automatically picks out the best server for you to play on without having to go through the awful server list can take about two minutes before it starts connecting you, and even then will still try to connect you to a server that filled up since it started the process, dumping you back to the server list. – BlackCat9
- As a BF2 newbie, more than once I've accidentally clicked the "Play Now" button, only to have to wait several minutes for it to do its thing with no option to cancel out. – Dasharatha
- Pressing the ESC key to load the menu at the end of the round does not stop the end of round music from playing when the menu music loads, causing the two to play on top of each other and brings the game to a crawl. – BlackCat9
- Non-static objects, like players and vehicles, disappear when viewed at long range, even when full view distance is set in options, but ONLY when the crosshair is pointing directly at them.

- Actually it's neither. It's a mathematical artifact that arises from calcualting the viewing frustrum using linear calculations (instead of using exact but costly methods). There are work-arounds that lessen the effect, but obviously the DICE ppl aren't aware of any, or didn't think this mattered. – Xombie
- There is always a delay (not lag) when switching between the commander screen and actual in-game play, which makes it difficult to issue commands while quickly reacting to in-game events that are happening at the same time. Also, I noticed that when I die while in the commander screen the game seems to freeze up for about 10-15 seconds. – 93_Confirmed
- That's most likely due to limited system resources on your end (such as not enough RAM); I have had no experiences like that in my several hours as a commander. – Dolphin64X
- The command line join function (+joinserver ADDRESS) works, but the password function (+password PASSWORD) does not. Not being able to join private servers from the command line or external server browsing tools is unacceptable.
- The only way to play the game at the common LCD resolution of 1280x1024 is to hear offhand how to enter this into the command line: +szx 1280 +szy 1024
UI Annoyances
- Inability to filter servers by letters or words in the name. (properly) – BlackCat9
- Pasting, such as that of IPs, in the server browser needs to be added. There's no excuse for this one. – BlackCat9
- When re-binding keys that are already bound to a key, ask if player wants to rebind them or do it automatically. Don't make the player unbind the keys himself. – BlackCat9
- Some keys claim to be bound, but do not show up in the bindings menu where they say they should be, such as X in the Boats menu. – BlackCat9
- Some controls are not listed in the bindings menu and cannot be rebound, such as CTRL for crouching in a turret. – BlackCat9
- Something to show you weather or not the server has allowed the global unlock feature. Working hard to get a rank and then not being able to use it is a bummer and a half.
- The UI sucks for various reasons. Here's one: There are too many mandatory prompts before entering the game. A login screen in an FPS game with save password feature but no auto-login feature? A "join game" button to enter the game, with a "join right away" checkbox that only joins 15 seconds after the option to join appears? Then you're met with the mandatory game action of choosing your spawn point and clicking another button to spawn into the game? Come on.
- The filter value (server string) is not remembered from one session to another.
- Servers should be divided into geographic zones. USA & Europe players are wasting their time & ours trying to play on Australian & New Zealand servers (high ping).
- There are only 3 ISP's in Australia with ranked servers. Other ISP's are interested but EA isnt !?!?
Other Annoyances
- getting some kind of summary of the ranks, benefits, and the qualifications for that rank would be nice too
- Good luck with this. The developers are being intentionally tight-lipped about what the qualifications are. Your best bet is to rely on guides posted on websites. – BlackCat9
- Bunny hopping ie jumping then straight to crouch, rinse repeat, is extremely annoying. this isnt CS.
- Lack of mobile stingers. A blackhawk with engineers and medics circle strafing a spawn point is extremely hard to bring down. It takes 2 or 3 AT missiles hitting at once, which is rare. The guns on the chinese / mec transport heli is nerfed in comparison.
"*I'd like to see the air spawn takeovers removed, or at least quadruple the takeover time. This would force the peeps in the Blackhawks and the Mec transports to get out to take over a spawn. I hate like hell defending a spawn against a heli. Maybe they could make it so that the heli could only be repaired on the ground while in a spawnpoint area?"
- It would be nice to also get defence points for shooting out of a spawn rather than having the enemy be in it.– Jiinx-DS-
The next patch apparently is going to make it so the full vehical counts as just 1 player for cap times. Other players will have to leave the vehical to cap with it
Addressed Issues

- Change punishment system to not punish by default -- if the player does not choose to punish the game should automatically forgive. A lot of the punishments occur because people simply don't pay attention, don't care, or don't know about how to forgive.
- This is already an option in the game. It is a server side option. In the BattleField2ServerLauncher it is listed as TKPunishByDefault, and it can also be changed via the command line or in the serversettings.con file, just join a servers with settings you want to play with, or lobby servers to change their settings. --TheCradle 21:14, 21 Jul 2005 (PDT)

- If at all possible, optimize the server browser, the menu, the general loading times, the lagginess of ranked servers... I know BF42 had most of these problems too and it was somewhat improved, but this stuff is just painful. – BlackCat9
