Overview

Special Forces are armed with a scoped rifle and detonator packs (C4). The C4 capability makes Special Forces vitally important for destroying artillery, radar and UAV huts, as well as a good close-in anti-vehicle class. The Special Forces rifle is less powerful than that of the Assault class, but is fairly accurate. It doesn't make you a Sniper, but it is a good all-around rifle that can be used for close-in work and at range as well.

The unlockable weapon for the Special Forces kit is the G36C. This weapon has fully-automatic and semi-automatic firing modes with a 30-round box magazine. It uses conventional ironsights instead of the "red dot" sighting system of the M4 and AK-74U. Accurate and powerful in short bursts.

Using C4

• You can plant more than one charge at once (and usually should). Your detonator blows all your charges. If you plant and blow one at a time, you're wasting a lot of time.
• You can only have five charges set at one time. If you resupply and attempt to lay more than five, the charges will begin disappearing, earliest first.
• You cannot pick your charges back up.
• If you die and respawn, your existing charges will be removed after about 20 seconds. If you are revived, however, your charges will remain. A teammate can pick up your kit and detonate your charges before they are removed.
• You cannot switch to your detonator or detonate your charges while sprinting.
• Engineers (friendly or enemy) cannot defuse your charges.
• By itself, unattended C4 will not contribute to an explosion that another Special Forces player sets off. However, it will contribute if it was stuck to a vehicle that explodes.
• One charge will destroy supply crates (this is really useful if you are trying to keep your opponent's artillery down).
• Two charges is both necessary and sufficient to kill most other things, including artillery, trailers, radar, enemy tanks, etc.
• Three charges will destroy bridges.
• You should be at least 10 meters (or so) away from your charges if you don't want to take blast damage. (Sometimes, of course, it is necessary to sacrifice yourself for the cause.)
• C4 will stick to vehicles.
• C4 can be thrown. Try leaping forward through the air as you "plant" it. This method of throwing can also be used for tossing C4 over walls such as to reach an enemy hiding in a dumpster.
• You can both drop and detonate C4 while parachuting.
• There's a bug where sometimes if you throw multiple charges at the same place too quickly, they blow up, and take all the C4 in your supply with them, but only do one charge worth of damage. Wacky.
• Another bug: if you drop a charge, quickly switch to the detonator, and attempt to detonate your charge, sometimes you'll switch away from the detonator and drop another charge instead. Very annoying in hectic 'last resort' situations.
• Yet another bug, if you drop your first C4 you won't be able to switch to the detonator until the C4 has hit the ground. This does not apply to the following charges (climb a crane and try it out). This only seems to affect online games as I have not been able to reproduce the bug in offline mode.

Tips And Tactics

• Just because you are Special Forces does NOT mean you're magically invisible to other players, enemy UAVs, or enemy radar scans.
• Destroy the enemy artillery! Artillery is a powerful weapon. If possible, the enemy should NEVER have access to his artillery.
• Monitor destroyed artillery, as it can be repaired with a supply crate or by an Engineer. Take it out again if it's repaired.
• It's possible to use your C4 the way engineers use mines, by planting it at entrances to a base. Hide and watch for incoming vehicles, then detonate under them to take them out. While this isn't drop-and-forget like mines, it also won't blow up under friendly vehicles (unless you're a jerk...).
• One way to help defend a capture point is to place C4 charges near the flag. If the flag goes neutral, you can detonate (from anywhere on the map) to kill the enemies capturing the point. Be sure to place charges so they cover all places an enemy can sit and cap the flag... Typically you will need to use all 5 charges to completely defend a flag.
• In a medium-range firefight, you can eliminate recoil and effectively snipe by switching to semi-autmoatic fire. This can be done by pressing the "3" key to toggle between Automatic and Semi-Automatic.
• You can load up a vehicle or chopper with C4 and then leave it waiting for the enemy to find. Once they load it up and start to move off... BOOM. This works especially well if you do it to a high-value vehicle like a Black Hawk.
• As a US Marine your M4A1 can also be used as a shortrange sniper: zoom in, have your M4A1 on Semi Automatic, prone and fire 2 shots pr second.
• If a teammate (or enemy) Spec Ops player plants charges on an enemy vehicle, arty, bridge, etc. and dies before he is able to detonate them, pick up his pack quickly! You can detonate the C4 he placed and complete the job.
• It appears that commander equipment (arty, radar, and the UAV trailer) can have negative damage. Planting more than the minimum C4 to destroy something will (if this is the case) force an engineer to spend more time repairing it, thus giving you more time to stop them. With 5 charges, you can't completely destroy 3 objects on your own. You then have the option of sending one piece of equipment into negative damage, or damaging a 3rd piece. A Spec-Ops with the assistence of a Support class could utterly destroy a large number of targets in rapid succession. Note however that you can only have 5 packs deployed at one time:

 10 Drop 5 charges
 20 Detonate
 30 Grab an ammo pack
 40 goto 10

Map Specific Tips And Tactics

• Gulf Of Oman 32+: If you're MEC, try getting to the USMC carrier to blow up their scanner/UAV. While you're there, place C4 inside a spawned Black Hawk and wait for it to take off. Your C4 will stay in the helicopter until you detonate it.

• Obviously works on any map with the Black Hawk. The bonus of adding just one C4 inside the Blackhawk is that it will take out all the personnel inside like two would plus it does not destroy the Black Hawk. Instead the Black Hawk will continue to fly on un-occupied meaning the US side will have acces to the Black Hawk a lot later compared to when it is destroyed completely.
