Teamspeak

From BattleWiki

So... you've decided to test your meager BF skills against your shack superiors. Congratulations on your impending ass-whooping. This page attempts to guide you through the basic setup procedure for shackbattle style teamspeak.

For Battlefield (1942, 2, etc.) shackbattles, Teamspeak is the voip software of choice. It enables realtime voice chat between players. The teams are to be separated into two separate channels for obvious reasons, and there is an additional "common" channel in which players can globally chat between maps or during initial setup.

Setup Tutorial

  1. OK first off you'll need to download the teamspeak client software off the teamspeak website. You can download it here.
  2. Install it. You may want to be careful to make sure you're not signing yourslef up for a bunch of spam or something.
  3. Fire it up. You should be presented with a blank teamspeak client window.
  4. Go to the settings menu and choose sound input/output settings.
    • Make sure PUSH TO TALK is selected, or else everyone will hear you breathe through your mouth as you fret about fucking ghost hacker sniping your lame ass.
    • You can also set your talk button here. Click the "set" button and press whatever you want. I use my "middle" mouse wheel button, but you should select something that doesn't fuck up your control scheme.
  5. Set up your keys:
    • Go to the settings menu and click "Key Settings." To add a key binding, click "Add". The rest should be self-explanitory if you have even casual experience playing games. The idea is to set the keys in an out-of-the-way section of they keyboard so that you don't accidentally switch channels in the heat of battle. The following is a simple key binding setup I use and reccommend:
      • Global Channel: /
      • Team 1 Channel: *
      • Team 2Channel: -
    • Please note that "Global", "Team 1", and "Team 2" are placeholders for the purposes of this tutorial; the channel names will differ based on which game you are playing and what names the server administrator gave to the channels. The channel names in your key bindings must match the channel names on the server exactly.
    • If you accidentally added a binding that conflicts with a game binding, or you need to rename the channel in your key binding, you can change it by selecting it and clicking the "Edit" button.
    • Click the "Close" button when you are finished setting up your bindings.
  6. Login to the server.
    • From the main screen, click the "Connection" menu and choose "Quick connect".
    • Enter your name in the nickname box. Use your shackname so people know who you are!
    • Enter the server address (ts.shackbattles.com) in the "Server Address" box.
    • There is no password. SHHH! Secret!
    • Connect to the server.
  7. Enter the appropriate channel.
    • It's easy, just double click on the channel you wish to join.
    • This might be a good time to test your key bindings and revise the channel names if necessary (that would be step 5).
  8. GAME ON!
    • You may minimize Teamspeak to the system tray if you're so inclined.
    • Launch Battlefield with Teamspeak running in the background.
    • If you switch teams, remember to switch channels, or else you're GUILTY OF CHEATING, YOU CHEATER.
    • If you have two monitors, you can move the teamspeak client to the secondary monitor to see who is speaking. I also hear the teamspeak overlay add-on is pretty nifty, but I haven't tried it (maybe someone would be kind enough to update this wiki with more information on that).
